Those who know me well know this: I was born and raised in Romagna.
I have a love-hate relationship with this land… and I must admit: the love has blossomed only recently.
When we were forcibly brought back to Italy, it wasn’t easy for me to resume a daily routine in the place I had once fled from. However, I couldn’t just stay cooped up at home, so I started doing what I do best: traveling.

The coast is notoriously known for its golden beaches, not-so-blue waters, trendy clubs, and numerous attractions for kids; practically the perfect mix of everything I dislike about the sea!
But there is a part of the Romagna coast where mass tourism hasn’t reached; it’s the mouth of the Savio River, a nature reserve protected from construction.
For us, it’s the perfect place to reconnect with the element of water in its wild and natural version.
The beach isn’t served by beach establishments, no bathrooms, or running water. We’re just a few kilometers from the nightlife, yet it feels like being in a distant world.
The road to get there is closed to cars, so as you cross the pine forest, you might encounter the most unusual characters: homeless people who live in the area, people jogging in the shade, kids with surfboards heading to the furthest point where there are usually quite interesting waves, considering we are still in the Adriatic.

We are at the northernmost side of Lido di Classe. Park your car at the entrance of the pine forest and venture into the trails. Remember, the more distance you’re willing to walk, the wilder the area you’ll reach.
