Beaches, Sun, and Adventures: Cambodia’s Secret Beaches for Adventurous Families

No one goes to Cambodia for the sea…

I had read so much while organizing the ideal itinerary; everyone said that the most beautiful beaches in Asia are not in Cambodia, and for a moment, I believed it.

…until we arrived at the sea 💙

That sea that tourist guides don’t even mention.

We found a small fishing village on the coast, far from those islands/resorts that have now lost all contact with their surroundings.

For entire weeks, we tried the food from every house, drank tea with almost all the villagers, and when on the evening of December 31st, we boarded a last-minute flight to Bali, I wondered if leaving was the right thing to do.

Have I piqued your curiosity?

This article will take you to discover secret seaside destinations, far from tourist routes, where you can enjoy the sun and sea with your kids. Get your towels and swimsuits ready because we are heading to some of Cambodia’s most original and authentic beaches!

Koh Ta Kiev: The Island of Cambodian Robinsons

Koh Ta Kiev is like a dream island for families seeking tranquility and natural beauty. This hidden gem is located off the coast of Sihanoukville but feels far from everything. With its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, Koh Ta Kiev is the perfect place for snorkeling, building sandcastles, and enjoying simple life.

A crucial note is that the island doesn’t always have running water or electricity, so be prepared for adventurous nights if you plan to stay!

Koh Rong Samloem: An Unknown Paradise

If you are looking for pristine beaches, Koh Rong Samloem is your destination. This little-visited island offers breathtaking natural beauty and a relaxing atmosphere. Here, you can snorkel among colorful corals and venture into the island’s rainforests with your little explorers. Boats dock at the island’s only pier, beside which are some resorts. A short walk through the island’s interior will bring you to the opposite side in about ten minutes: a true untouched paradise where a single hostel perches on the cliffs. Be careful not to confuse it with the more fashionable and touristy nearby Koh Rong.

Ream Beach: A Hidden Treasure in Ream National Park

In Ream National Park, you will find the wonderful Ream Beach. This tranquil beach is a true oasis of peace, surrounded by mangroves and marine biodiversity. It is the perfect spot for a family outing, with opportunities to observe exotic birds and hike in the rainforest.

Kep Beach: The Crabcake Paradise

Kep is famous for its crabcake but also has a charming beach. Here, you can relax on the golden sand, take a walk along the seafront, and savor fresh seafood dishes in local restaurants. Kep Beach is a place where time seems to slow down, making it perfect for a relaxing family vacation.

Koh Thmei: The Natural Reserve of a Deserted Beach

Koh Thmei is an uninhabited island located in the Gulf of Thailand. This island is a natural reserve with a deserted beach and crystal-clear waters. Here, you can explore wildlife, snorkel in coral reefs, and hike in the jungle with your adventurous kids.

And so, we conclude our fascinating journey discovering Cambodia’s wildest and least touristy beaches. These wonderful hidden destinations are perfect for an unforgettable family adventure.
