The Wild Romagna Riviera You Didn't Expect

The Hidden Side of Romagna

A beach holiday is an unforgettable experience for kids and families.

Hello travelers with little explorers in tow!

Those who know me well know this: I was born and raised in Romagna.

I have a love-hate relationship with this land… and I must admit: the love has blossomed only recently.

When we were forcibly brought back to Italy, it wasn’t easy for me to resume a daily routine in the place I had once fled from. However, I couldn’t just stay cooped up at home, so I started doing what I do best: traveling.

I began to explore my surroundings in a different way, discovering places far from mass tourism and very close to me.

Today I’ll tell you about the Romagna coast as you’ve surely never seen it before.

Wild and Unspoiled Romagna

The coast is notoriously known for its golden beaches, not-so-blue waters, trendy clubs, and numerous attractions for kids; practically the perfect mix of everything I dislike about the sea!

But there is a part of the Romagna coast where mass tourism hasn’t reached; it’s the mouth of the Savio River, a nature reserve protected from construction.

For us, it’s the perfect place to reconnect with the element of water in its wild and natural version.

The beach isn’t served by beach establishments, no bathrooms, or running water. We’re just a few kilometers from the nightlife, yet it feels like being in a distant world.

The road to get there is closed to cars, so as you cross the pine forest, you might encounter the most unusual characters: homeless people who live in the area, people jogging in the shade, kids with surfboards heading to the furthest point where there are usually quite interesting waves, considering we are still in the Adriatic.

How to Reach This Untouched Beach in Romagna?

We are at the northernmost side of Lido di Classe. Park your car at the entrance of the pine forest and venture into the trails. Remember, the more distance you’re willing to walk, the wilder the area you’ll reach.

The Hidden Treasures of Lido di Classe

Lido di Classe is a hidden gem on the Adriatic coast, located in the wonderful region of Romagna in Italy. If you’re looking for an escape from the bustling city life and want to immerse yourself in natural beauty, then Lido di Classe is the perfect destination for you. In this article, we’ll explore its wild and unspoiled beaches that turn this location into a paradise for nature and travel lovers.

The Magic of Lido di Classe

Lido di Classe is a quiet and picturesque seaside resort located a short distance from the famous city of Ravenna. This area is known for its natural beauty, golden sand, and crystal-clear waters. However, what makes Lido di Classe truly special are its wild and unspoiled beaches, which are far from the crowds of the more popular tourist spots.

The Wild and Untouched Beaches of the Romagna Riviera
  1. Dune Beach: This beach is named after the sandy dunes that surround it. The natural dunes help preserve the surrounding environment and make this area even wilder and more fascinating. It’s an ideal place for a walk amidst unspoiled nature.
  2. Turtle Beach: This beach is famous for being an important nesting site for sea turtles. During the nesting season, you might be lucky enough to witness the magical moment when turtles lay their eggs on the sand. This beach is a protected and regulated area to preserve the local marine life.
  3. Fishermen’s Beach: If you’re interested in local culture, visit Fishermen’s Beach in Lido di Classe. Here, you can see the boats of local fishermen and buy fresh fish directly from the sea. It’s a unique opportunity to taste local fish-based cuisine.

Nature Activities in Romagna

Besides relaxing on the beach, Lido di Classe offers numerous activities for nature lovers. You can explore the surrounding pine forests, go biking along scenic bike paths, or join eco-tours to learn more about the local flora and fauna.

Just a few kilometers from the beaches of Lido di Classe is the Saline di Cervia Nature Reserve. Another gem of the territory, not to be missed in your wild itinerary in Emilia Romagna. If you want to discover it, you can read my article dedicated to the Saline di Cervia after the flood.

Romagna Cuisine

Romagna is also famous for its delicious cuisine. While in Lido di Classe, don’t miss the opportunity to taste traditional dishes like piadina, fresh fish, and local cheeses. The restaurants along the coast offer a wide range of regional delicacies that will satisfy your palate.

If you want a recommendation, jot down “La piada degli dei,” a super folkloric kiosk that makes the best piadina in the world!

Conclusion

Lido di Classe in Romagna is a unique destination offering the perfect combination of natural beauty, wild and unspoiled beaches, outdoor activities, and culinary delights. If you want a break from daily life and immerse yourself in unspoiled nature, this corner of Italy is the right place for you. The wild beaches and tranquility of Lido di Classe will make you feel in harmony with nature, making your vacation unforgettable.

The best time to visit? May and September… if the weather allows, even October.

If you’re in the area and want to visit an art city, Romagna is full of them. Personally, I recommend reading my articles on:
